Hello fellow travelers! Ok, let’s dispel with the controversy before we go any further. What is the correct spelling of “travelers/travellers”? I must confess that when I registered the hostname, I didn’t look up the spelling in the dictionary. I choose the host name of travellers and later wondered if it was misspelled. Searching for travelers in the dictionary revealed that spelling. I was so disappointed and even though I had not created any blogs, the hostname had been purchased and could not be renamed. So, what do I do? On a whim, I looked up “travellers” in the dictionary and to my pleasant surprise, it’s also a correct spelling. The definition is “traveler” (HA!). It seems to be the British spelling. Alright, that gives it an international flavor (yeah, that was my intention all along).
Introduction – who are we?
So with this being our (my wife, Naomi, and myself) first post, I’ll give you a short summary of the plan for our blog. We both enjoy traveling immensely. In the 15 plus years of being married, we’ve been all over the U.S. and have traveled internationally several times. Infection by the travel bug did not begin with our nuptials, so we also plan on sharing our travels before our marriage. We will not only share where we’ve been, but our discoveries and perhaps a little bit of advise along the way. This is not intended to be a travel agency, but a place to share our personal experiences and hopefully help you to catch the travel bug.
Expectations
With traveling, the discussion topics can be endless. Some of our planned topics are National Parks; Presidential Museums/Libraries; what to see in Missouri (we are “showme” travellers); traveling the U.S., South America, Africa, Europe, and Asia. At this point, we plan to post three times weekly. Our blog posts will be open for comments, so you can share your ideas and questions with us and other readers.
This blog will be a work in progress as we are finding out about this”blog world”. The “look and feel” may change as we experiment. Naomi, myself, and occasionally a guest author will contribute posts.
Deciding on a photo for the introduction blog was difficult. We have thousands of photos. Perhaps this was one of the most exciting moments when we happened upon these two lions taking a nap after a big meal in the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya.
Motives
I have found myself talking considerably about travel to friends, family, co-workers (retired now), and even acquaintances when returning from a trip or when I found out someone was going to be traveling. We just find it exciting and fun. A feature of our blog is to have travel quotes that we change occasionally. I’d like to close with a quote from Mark Twain, “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.”
